you're more than welcome, ka i get that you have a lot of reading (and if you're like many of us here, you'll never quite accomplish all of it), but i highly recommend this pcworld mag article....... Backup Burns: CD-RW Drives pcworld.com fwiw, right now i am using 1gb iomega jaz disks (with compression i can get something like 2gb per disk). but i eventually determined that backing up to a second hard drive would be smarter, cheaper, more fun, and would teach me things too! <g3> what a winning proposition. and this plan has led me, as it has so many others on this thread, to powerquest software products such as drive image and partition magic. keep us posted on your thoughts and progress and questions. :) mark
