Hi Nancy, My wife and I as well as the couple we went with had a great time. All that talk about providence and luck before I left, sometimes God makes you live these things out. We went just west Golden B.C. to a place called Kinbasket lake Actually it's a 120 mile dammed off stretch of the Columbia River. Total wilderness. The first day my friend and I went out in his boat fishing for a couple of hours and caught nothing. then his boat motor started acting up(I told him we should take mine) so we had to paddle back to the dock. The resort owner wanting us to have a good time said why don't you take my brand new boat and he would drive the ladies several miles up the lake and meet us for lunch. We agreed and did just that. The owner said he was sure that we would HE WAS WRONG. On the way back I looked at my friend and said I'm sure we have enough gas to make it, just at the very moment as if on Que, it died. We paddled to shore, climbed 200 yards through dense bush to a logging road and walked back a couple of miles. then we took a small boat to retrieve the out of gas one but by this time it was getting dark. This led to one of the most beautiful experiences that I have ever had. I sat in the dead boat while my friend towed us and as it got dark the stars started to become visible. First we saw a planet (I think Mars) then several satellites flew over and all the while more and more stars appeared. Soon you could see the milky way. Then as I was looking up in awe, a meteorite entered the atmosphere from the south and went right across the sky, it just kept going. WOW!! There were two scriptures that came to my mind as I sat in that boat in the dark, they were Psalm 19 "The heavens declare his Glory", and one from Jeremiah 31:35-37 after promising the new Covenant, he reiterates His commitment to Israel and says; Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
We got back safely had a great steak dinner and the next day just before leaving we went up the mountain where they are helicopter logging to get some rocks.(BIG MISTAKE!) Coming down my friend put his truck in low gear, my wife said what's that smell? Turns out it was the transmission. We had to crawl back to Calgary in second gear. Other than that, it was a pretty boring trip.
God bless; Greg :) |
