Paul Allen to Leave Microsoft Board In an SEC proxy statement filed Thursday in advance of its November shareholder meeting, Microsoft has announced that Paul Allen, who co-founded the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant with Bill Gates and is its second-largest shareholder after Gates, will not stand for re-election to the company's board of directors. He will leave the board as of the Nov. 9 meeting. In a statement, Gates, the company's chief software architect and chairman, expressed appreciation for Allen's contribution. "Paul was instrumental in the creation of Microsoft and has played an important role in the success and direction of our company." – Dominic Gates
