300 METER STEP-OUT INTERSECTS 71.3 METERS OF SULPHIDE MINERALIZATION ON WEST ZONE EXTENSION
Starfield Resources Inc. is currently conducting a 10,000 meter drill program to explore the Company’s 100% owned Ferguson Lake Nunavut Territory Palladium-Platinum-Nickel-Copper-Cobalt sulphide project. Results from the initial seven holes completed to date during this phase on the West Zone have now been compiled. Step-out holes FL00-41 and FL00-42, drilled on section 57+34 which is 300 meters west of the previously defined West Zone sulphide deposit, confirm that the extensive UTEM geophysical anomaly has been caused by massive sulphides. This strong, deep, and still open anomaly extends 2.3 kilometers (7500 feet) from the currently calculated 14.5 million tonne West Zone resource (reported July 26 and June 1st, 2000). The West Zone resource is relatively shallow (less than 300 m (984 feet) and has an average width of 12 meters (39 feet) with a strike length of approximately 1400 meters (4600 feet). Significantly, the dimensions of the mineralized zone appear to be increasing downdip ( as suggested by the UTEM survey) with widths of 71.3 meters (234 feet) in hole FL00-41 and 78.35 meters (257 feet) in hole FL00-42.
Drill holes FL00-37 and FL00-38 on Section 56+12 West and hole FL00-40 on Section 57+34 West intersected mineralization typical of the upper part of the sulphide horizon while holes FL00-41 and FL00-42 on the same section intersected the system at greater depths To date, the step-out holes have tested less than 10% of the total UTEM geophysical anomaly along strike, and no more than one-third of the depth.
The entire 71.3 meter interval in hole FL00-41 averaged 1.05 g/tonne of total Palladium plus Platinum. Included within the mineralized section in hole FL00-41 is an 11.9 meter interval assaying 1.15% Copper, 0.78% Nickel, 1.66 g/tonne Palladium and 0.29 g/tonne Platinum. Individual assays from 1 meter intervals in holes FL00-41 and FL00-42 from within the sulphide section range up to 5.85% Copper and 1.01% Nickel. Higher grade Palladium and Platinum assays occur in a narrow, but distinct, sulphide zone at the base of hole FL00-35 where a 0.27 meter interval returned assays of 5.03 g/tonne Palladium and 0.56 g/tonne Platinum. These results suggest the system has potential to develop local zones of higher grade mineralization.
Drilling is on-going at Ferguson Lake with two drill rigs to trace the sulphide horizon both to depth and along strike to the west. The Company’s management team is pleased that the new results continue to expand the property’s global resource potential with the ultimate target to define a resource in excess of 100 million tonnes. Drill results are summarized in the following table.
