Intel Delays Christmas; Changes Accounting Period

September 29, 2000. In a move that few companies could pull off, Intel today announced that the company has delayed Christmas until January 25, 2001 and is switching from quarterly accounting to a semester basis. According to the company, this will allow it to capture the Christmas season revenue for the delayed Pentium 4 in the next earnings report, and it will also ensure sufficient availability of Rambus memory for PCs using the P4. When asked how this could be done, a company official said that Intel has gained so much experience with delays that it now believes that it can delay the date of our Lord's birth.
