ECCS Introduces the Synchronix 3000 Data Storage Engine, With Superior Performance and Full-Fibre Connectivity
September 28, 2000 02:02 PM Eastern Time
TINTON FALLS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 2000--ECCS, Inc., ECCS today introduced the Synchronix 3000(TM), a fault-tolerant data storage engine that delivers superior performance in speed, storage capacity, data protection and storage management, along with the advantages of full-fibre connectivity.

"Our new Synchronix 3000(TM) data storage engine is a truly superior technology," said Gregg M. Azcuy, President and CEO of ECCS.

"We've built such a high-level of performance into the Synchronix 3000(TM) in speed, storage capacity, data protection and storage management, along with full-fibre connectivity, that it's the ideal tool for organizations to meet new, expanding data storage needs in a cost-effective manner."

The Synchronix 3000(TM) engine, which is currently available, will be introduced October 2, 2000, at the Oracle Open World 2000 conference, booth 320, in San Francisco.

The Synchronix 3000(TM) achieves real large-block transfer speeds of 190 MB per second for two channels, a speed that is significantly higher than other systems on the market, including previous ECCS systems. Storage capacity is 4.38 TB with one standard 70" cabinet and can expand to 20.1 TB with two additional standard cabinets.

And the Synchronix 3000(TM) provides for the full use of fibre-channel capabilities among a network's controller, host and disk drives, with operating links reaching up to 10 kilometers.

The most effective data-protection features are built into the Synchronix 3000(TM). Enhanced RAID technology provides for RAID levels 30 and 50, as well as levels 0, 1, 3, 5, 10 and JBOD, and for unique fault-tolerant data security. The Synchronix 3000(TM) can notify network operations of any system fault through e-mail, pager, fax and a customized program.

Users don't risk losing access to data when adding new disk drives, because the system does not have to be shut down for system changes. A redundant system provides two identical devices for monitoring environmental factors like temperature, fan operation and power-supply status.

Using special software capabilities, the Synchronix 3000(TM) provides unprecedented flexibility in meeting an organization's specific storage requirements.

It can become the central data storage for different networks, including Direct Attached Storage (DAS) and Network Attached Storage (NAS), and Storage Area Networks (SAN) with ECCS' new SANStar(TM) data storage engine, which is the only product on the market capable of unifying an organization's data storage resources.

It provides storage capacity for any environment, because it adheres to Open Systems protocols. The Synchronix 3000(TM) allows key components, like controllers, disk drives, power supplies and fans, to be added without making program changes, shutting down the network or losing access to data.

Modular construction allows for the addition of new storage capacity. The Synchronix 3000(TM) is delivered with ten disk drives. Additional disk drives can be added in increments as small as one drive to a maximum of 60 disk drives with each controller pair. The Synchronix 3000(TM) enclosure is compact -- 3 U or 5.25" -- for easy planning and minimal use of valuable space.

"Our Synchronix 3000(TM)'s superior performance, full-fibre connectivity and rich feature set deliver unprecedented flexibility, giving e-commerce enterprises and other information-intensive organizations new freedom to design just the data storage networks they need," said Eugene A. Shippey, Vice President of Sales.

"The Synchronix 3000(TM) can function in different networks and environments, and it supports our new SANStar(TM) engine, so it plays a role in helping organizations gain access to information from their complex systems, even from networks that couldn't communicate with each other before."

The new Synchronix Array Manager(TM) (SAM) management system gives the Synchronix 3000(TM) unprecedented ease of operation. SAM takes over the management by handling functions like configuring the system, adjusting to new components and assuring a safe shutdown of the system.

Systems administrators can view and assess performance factors, like processing speed and throughput, with easy-to-read graphic displays on their monitors from anywhere in their networks.

ECCS, Inc., an innovative high-technology company based in Tinton Falls, NJ, serves e-commerce, major corporate, government, and other customers by supplying fault-tolerant systems and software that store, protect, and manage data in complex networks with greater ease and cost savings.

ECCS data storage systems -- including Synchronix 2000(TM), Synchronix 2500(TM), Synchronix 3000(TM), Synchronix SAN(TM), the Synchronection 2(TM) and the SANStar(TM) systems -- are modular units that can be tailored and stacked to meet customers' specific and expanding data storage requirements.
