I would disagree strongly with that statement.

This subject has been researched thoroughly. Over the past three years, there is nary an issue of Financial Analysts Journal that doesn't address some aspect of analyst performance. The main conclusion is that analyst predictions are generally neither wrong nor right. If you consider that in aggregate the analysts are pretty much the market, this conclusion makes sense.

There is one exception to this rule. When an analyst that works for a company that is also the investment bank for the firm that he covers, a downgrade is very closely correlated with future poor performance.
