Royale Energy Inc. drills a major new discovery well in
Denverton Creek Field

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 1997--Royale Energy Inc. (Nasdaq/NMS:ROYL) has encountered more than 100 feet of natural- gas-filled sands in its Denverton Creek 33-1 well, drilled in the Sacramento basin, Solano County, Calif.

The well was drilled to 8,061 feet total depth, and logs show that three separate zones were discovered, with one zone being 77 feet thick. The lower 20-foot zone was completed and tested at 2,650,000 cubic feet per day of high-BTU natural gas with very little pressure drawdown.

Currently, the pipeline and production facilities are being constructed to handle 5 million cubic feet per day. Sales should begin by the end of the month. Royale will continue drilling in this area to fully develop its additional reserves.

The company's West Lindsey Slough well is currently being drilled and is at 7,200 feet. Total depth will be 11,000 feet and should be reached within two weeks.
