I've made a living fishing little feeders. It was known in the fishing circles that I hung around in that I would fish "piss off a mountain".

When I was a boy my Dad would take me to the Beaverkill and I would often explore these little feeders. In addition to the Brookies that you mention I have often found them to contain some resident Brownies of decent size that swim up these streams.

Often these streams would originate from ponds. In one case I found such a pond containing nothing but pickerel and had a field day catching'em as big as 20 inches.

I used to fish a small stream that flowed in to Wood Cliff lake in NJ.Beautiful stream with tea colored water [ we called it Cedar water ]that wandered through the well manicured lawns of fine homes. Full of native Brownies as large as 14 inches.

One afternoon as I was pulling in a brownie about 9 inches a housewife came out of her home stood on the lawn not 10 yards from me to explain that there were no fish in this stream . She never missed a beat as I held up the fish for her inspection just before I released it.
