Doesn't sound too much like a "commodity" to me.

Uniformity? Nope. Some work; some don't.

No after-delivery service needed? Hardly.

Only "commodity" here is the marketing hype from the ISPs, MSOs and modem makers. Start selling a product that really works, that installers and users have confidence in, and margins could be good.
