That's a good one. But you've got it backward. You can buy an iMac for about $649 that can do faster image processing that a WinTel machine that costs 3x as much!

Macs are a little pricey at the high end, but at $2495 you can buy a PowerMac with two 450 MHz G4 processors capable of doing 4 BILLION floating point ops per second using the vector unit. If you are rendering 3D film sequences you would have to buy a small render farm of WinTel machines to equal that.

Or maybe by "essentially the same thing" you just meant "computer". In which case you're right, because you can get a dirt cheap WinTel machine that plays ads for you and requires a 5-year subscription to hellish, slow Intenet.
