Hi Sam C.
From Dow On-Line News:
<<Mr. Lewis said industry-wide component shortages should limit production and that some disk-drive vendors "will be able to extract a premium beyond the supply related price hikes," in return for guaranteed supply to computer makers in the important Christmas season.

"We believe this current supply shock represents a phenomenal opportunity for drive vendors to alter the fundamentals in the industry," Mr. Lewis said.

"Additionally, we believe component shortages increase the possibility of structural change," he said. "If structural change were to occur, we believe the long-term profitability of the industry would significantly improve.">>

Structural change is the big key. The DD companies have known for a long time that they must consolidate but haven't. Different this time.... I think so but this is what makes this a high risk investment particularly in the face of indications of lagging demand in the pc sector going into the 4th quarter... but we've been there before, too.
