WordPerfect brought it on themselves. Together with Lotus they stuck with DOS and were late to recognize the Windows OS. By the time either of them had a reasonable Windows version, Microsoft cut their (and Borland's) legs off with a discounted Office suite.

Sales of Navigator have grown since Microsoft offered IE for free, though everyone (me included) reasonably expects Microsoft's browser share to grow. Upfront cost is of negligible concern to intranet builders. It's the cost, effectiveness, and upgrade path of the total solution that counts. Right now ONLY Netscape offers a total solution.
