more people will be drawn to watch a car crash than a car driving down the freeway.

It's all about sensationalism. If they had said "The long struggling personal computer provider, AAPL, has warned that they would not meet earnings expectations. AAPL has a long tradition of dropping the ball when it comes to meeting market needs and providing a standards based platform so that developers would feel comfortable designing applications for the platform and not having the platform change somewhere down the line. Their market cap has reflected the views that they are not really *players* in the market, and therefore this pre-announcement of missed earnings should not be construed as being meaningful to the market at large. Their new market capitalization may now actually be a bit low for their current revenue stream."

But isn't it more fun to say that it is the end of the world as we know it???
