Hello Doren, Re: To hard nosed professional people like me it looks like form over function or maybe even desperation, meanwhile my main computer is now my $1100 homebuilt Athlon/98/NT.

As a current AMD shareholder (and an APPL shareholder and programmer in the '80s), I offer my condolences to current APPL shareholders. Others have mentioned APPL's current forward looking PE of 25 or so, I believe AMD's forward looking PE is now around 8! Having said that, let me add "I feel your pain".

At work we lost several thousand dollars when the vendor we purchased systems from went under financially. Since that time we have built our own machines and take our own risks. Currently I have built over 70 Athlon based systems at costs in the neighborhood of the $1100 you mention. These machines are in use daily, most of them are client machines running Win98 but a few are running as NT servers. ALL the Athlon machines are giving us excellent stable trouble free service and they are fast!

With the successful design and marketing of the Athlon, AMD has fundamentally changed itself from a follower to a leader and has an extremely bright future (IMHO). There has been talk on the AMD threads of Apple using AMD's chips in future designs, some seem to think that the port of OSX to the x86 instruction set would not be difficult. I'm not sure why MOT is having problems getting the G4 over 500 MHz, but I do know AMD is expected to market 1.5 GHz Athlons during the Q1 of 2001.

Perhaps there's a possibility of a symbotic relationship between these two companies?

Kindest regards,
CrazyMan
