Most educated people acknowledge that global warming is real. That's really not the issue. The issue is what has caused it and is it just a normal occurrence? That's where the politicians enter into the debate. I'm of the opinion that we're better off being safe than sorry but that comes from being an engineer who's responsibility is to safe-gaurd the public health and safety or I loose my license to practice. An irresponsible politician (there's an oxymoron if I ever heard one) could care less about the long term effects of his/her actions...its all about rhetoric and votes and money.
