The part that has me scratching my pointy little head is the bit about an "expected" shortfall. Maybe I wasn't paying attention at the shareholders' meeting, but I remember expectations of a steady increase of VCD decoder sales for the next year. So I sure did not expect any shortfall. This doesn't sit right with me.
Furthermore, if we decide to trust Dr. Balkanski (after the way he has messed with the shareholder), he did say that Cube's earnings will depend in a decreasing manner on MPEG1 decoders. The sharp downward revision in short-term earnings opens this premise for review. Worse, the 38-50% drop in projected EPS implies that this summer reliance on earnings from mature products (CL4xx and CL6xx) was high.
Re Chinese new year: Cube and ESS ship in Q1. How long for Chinese OEMs to receive chips, build and ship finished players to the consumer?
I'd appreciate your take on this.
