You mentioned somewhere that I was insensitive--to all the many good believers out there. I am not. This thread is an opposition to fanaticism and blind faith. This thread sets out its ideas clearly. It does not exist for the benefit of believers (of any kind), to have a love-in. It is for people who wish to challenge their beliefs and ideas (religious or otherwise), and to find a kinder and more compassionate way of being in the world. We don't drown everything in sugar here, and we don't follow one another blindly. We act as equals, and we act as free people to come and to go as we please. Nothing is being offered as an incentive to visit here; nothing is offered as an incentive to leave.
If you cannot tolerate criticism, discussion, evaluation, analysis, and opinions surrounding the thread topics...please protect your peace of mind, by going to a praise God thread, where you will not likely find yourself besieged by doubts, questions, or concerns.
I hope you enjoyed your coffee. Oh, one thing I would really appreciate. I can ask, at least. It has become sort of a tradition here that we criticise ideas and not one another; Principles and not people. I have been guilty of straying from that ideal when looking at historical matters: It is quite difficult sometimes to separate the person from the idea. However, it does make for a more honest and fruitful discussion...and, of course, it is less hurtful. |
