Hi Demosthenes!

Well, some of the numbers will be different in detail for you, but in the same direction (possibly). I look at published numbers for my metro area, like employment, house prices, food prices. I look at the CPI and PPI, and the corrections that follow each month. I look at capacity utilization and the like for factory output stuff. I look at prices of typical goods, although here I admit I spend a lot of time looking at memory chips, computers, and like that.

Oh, and of course, stock prices. <g>

Nothing too fancy, and I don't have any special access or "home grown" numbers. I don't subscribe to any special analysis sources, but I do look at a lot of freely available "advice."

I occasionally seek out contrary views as well, for balance's sake. For example, the Contrarian here on SI is not too bad, in small doses. I make sure to have friends with other, even opposing, views, and talk regularly with them. (For instance, my Cistercian Buddhist friend now thinks we're in for a small recession, beginning in winter. I'm not that far along, yet.)

I feel a rational discussion is possible without "the same numbers" although the risk is that the discussion degrades into squabbling over the differences rather than the common trends indicated.

And besides, this is the AMAT thread; who said we HAVE to be rational? Just kidding....

Mitch
