You know, it is not unexpected when people drop into the thread with strong emotion and resentment. Strong religious belief is a powerful life-line for many people. I could make an analogy with one's spouse. No amount of reason or facts will argue someone out of a position which is an integral part of their world-view. Moving to a new intellectual and emotional liebenstraum is a courageous choice that must always result in a period of confusion.

This thread does not ask anyone to change their mind. It does not ask anyone to give up their faith or beliefs. There is no hidden agenda. This is a fireside chat for expressing opinions, amongst (hopefully) people that can reject the validity of opinions, without rejecting persons.

I believe that religion is coming into a revolution: A revolution that will entirely change the way people connect with their spiritual concepts. The next 15 years will be momentous. It is necessary; It is right. How will that transition be made? Perhaps talking to one another here will give us clues, and also ideas.

I've said this so often: I think the Old Dogma is anachronous. There is far too much distance between Joshua--and modern technology and thought--to hold both at one time. One of them has to go, and one of them will. This is as certain as the fact that the earth orbits around the sun.

There have been so many representations of God. All were imperfect. All have continuously changed; All will continue to change. Is there a God? I don't know. Is life God? I don't know. Is there any rational reason for people to kill one another over spiritual differences? Most of us would say "NO", right? So why do we still do it?

It is important in life to live well, and to be happy. Ideas are the (man made) world. Ideas are real. Thoughts are real. They have power. How we think is how we act. Let us think tolerance and peace.
