I came to the conclusion a long time ago that any God worthy of my service would have to be a God of love, justice, and mercy. The God I met when taking a literal reading of the Old Testament was one I could not serve!

I came to understand the Scriptures as a road map that helps us know how our ancestors in faith understood the "Holy", not as an inerrant document on which a faith test will be given.

For me to be Christian is to see the world thru the eyes of Christ! Christ saw the good in people! When he looked at Mary of Magdalene he never saw a prostitute. He saw the person.

Christ said that if we knew the truth the truth would set us free! I concluded that any God that was worthy of my service must be the author of all truth. This freed me to seek truth wherever it may be found whether in a test tube, a Holy Book, or an archaeological dig. Whenever the truth was in conflict with religious tradition, then I believe one must be willing to re-evaluate the religious tradition in light of the truth. Faith that requires one to ignore the truth is not faith it religious stupidity

I have reached the conclusion that any doctrinal system that is closed or that believes that it defines truth for all time is in itself idolatrous. I don't accept any religious claims of infallibility or inerrancy. Instead I seek always the truth knowing that in seeking the truth I seek God.

I believe that our call to compassion is prior to our call to holiness and that the holiness we seek must be grounded first in love and acceptance, not in moral principles or righteousness.
