This approach to increasing taxes on fuel in order to lower it's usage is a frontal attack on the poor and the working class. The wealthy will find it an irritant but not a tremendous burden. However, the poor will be greatly harmed. They may have to give up their vehicles and rely on public transportation, walking or biking. The second car will have to go. Gore will be pleased to see less internal combustion engines on the street. Of course, there will be a great effect on the automotive industry where 1 in 6 Americans work in either it directly or a related industry. If we develop a hybrid vehicle that is both electric and internal combustion it will be very expensive and only affordable to the wealthy. The fully electric car will also be very expensive and have severe problems in speed and distance that can be travelled without recharging. This is a tremendously important election as it will affect and change our way of living, particularly if Gore should be elected. The poor will suffer under Gore.
