<Warren Buffett aficionado Dick Young swears by his "Top 10 Countdown" list of companies that lead sectors which are teed up for what he calls "big, fast, explosive growth." One of his top 10 stocks is Qualcomm (QCOM) as he predicts the firm's CDMA technology will win out over competitors as it "superior for the Internet," Young says. He recommends Qualcomm for "hyper-aggressive portfolios willing to whip-snapping volatility." Another Young pick, Flextronics (FLEX), has doubled since he added it to his top 10 list. Flextronics makes cell phones for Ericsson, Palm Pilots for 3Com, circuit boards for Compaq, and routers for Cisco Systems. Plus, the company just inked a five-year deal to make 15% of Motorola's communication products. Lucent (LU) is another of Young's selections. Shares "have been beaten like a drum of late," Young says, blaming the CEO for "missing major trends." But Young notes the Lucent introduced an impressive 128 products from the Bell Labs think tank last year alone. "Despite CEO McGinn's screw-ups, the underpinnings are strong here," Young says.>> |
