Paul,

If you assumed that Intel did not have dual core x86 32 bit and IA64 bit cores underway, you would be very naive - and wrong.

I didn't. This is what I said: "Intel's roadmap is not specific in this area, but if all Intel has is a single core CPU with traditional architecture" http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=14489684

You might ask yourself - What is the dual core Sludgehumper based on ?

I would like to see a single core traditional CPU design with the core initially, as a proof of concept. There will eventually be something like that. There was some talk of a clawhammer, but I don't know what the timing will be.

But anyway, my point to Tench was that SledgeHammer will be a competition of mainly Foster based Xeons. This is where the market is, and this is where the bulk of the market will be 1 year from now.

It is unclear where Itanium will be 1, 2 years from now. One thing that you will not dispute is that the market share of Itanium is zero. Where will it be at the time of SledgeHammer launch? 0.1%? 1%? What do you think?

Joe
