WTC, I was just talking about what the cable operators wanted from their new internet access technology initally. Why woulnd't you want HFC or some type of fiber? The speed of light is the fastest mode of signal progression, and someday there will be no need to change it back to a digital signal. Have you read how many large installations TWX and Rogers in Canada are deploying this year? UMG is not only going into data communications but also telephony,as is TWX. Now lets suppose which will happen with the better players, not TCI,that you can give me internet access at T-3 speeds, telephone service at 50% off, cable T.V., wireless home LAN all over one line running to my network node outside my door? Lets just take a for instance, cable and internet in a package for $69.95,not bad huh? How about cable, local telephone, internet access for $89,95,I would be there in a heartbeat, and it is happening as we speak in large metropolitan markets, @Home has leased lines from Teleport,so they don't have to install them. AT&T is leasing fiber lines from the cable co's,you don't have to neccesarily build new fiber optic lines, just lease them. Tim |
