I don't think this is necessarily good news

I think, judged against the backdrop of the current market, this is excellent news. Investors have begun to worry that large cap tech stocks (INTC, AAPL, before that DELL) cannot deliver the revenue growth necessary to sustain the valuations. That is really the prime worry investors seem to have about the large cap techs. It is a demand side worry primarily -- the law of large numbers will eventually lead to demand for the company's products tapering off.

CSCO's news is that the demand growth remains so intense that the supply side cannot keep up -- hence the backlog. The prime cause of this is likely to be component shortages and maybe to a lesser extent manufacturing capacity problems or delay problems.

In this environment, that's a pretty good problem to have.
