The Euro is a grand experiment, but it is fatally flawed. Without political union, a common currency will not work. Eventually, perhaps sooner rather than later, speculators will start attacking it with gusto. The political differences will surface and the experiment will be abandoned.

Such events will certainly slow our exports somewhat in the short run. Given the labor shortages we already face, this will not be a bad thing at the macro level. Obviously, at the individual level there will be some pain.

We might get a slight blip in gold under such circumstances. I would characterize it as a dead cat bounce. Just MHO.
