First off, in rereading my post, I see that I should have put plenty of “wonderful” (fabulous, magnificent…you take your choice) singers (past and present)….

Nonetheless, I still disagree with you.

Some of 'em are great performers but none of 'em are good singers… Sammy Davis Jr shoulda stuck to dancing, Satchmo to playing the trumpet, etc., etc.


I think that Satchmo was a superb singer. His trumpet playing is probably as good as it gets, but I think his singing was just as compelling. It’s not the tone or quality of his voice with which I’m concerned, it’s the soulful, swinging magic that he made with it.
