This Euro thing is leading back to gold.

Countries went off the gold standard for altruistic reasons (socialism). Now they are slowly discovering that what they regard as virtue, doesn't work.

A sea of tears won't make a loaf of bread and neither will a bureaucrat’s edict.

They seem to sense that there has to be "something" bigger than one bureaucrat’s whims to set the price of money. So they are now trying two bureaucrats.

Eventually, they will decide that to set the price of money, everyone on the planet must participate in the setting of that price.

Gold is the only way to achieve that.
