"Where is the best place to begin learning TA? How does function point analysis compare with other methods of TA?...are there automated web-based Function Point Charting tools? And finally if I had to read one-three books what should they be?"

I personally don't know anything about and don't use point and figure charting, so I can't comment on this technique as a technical tool. You may wish to connect with Options Jerry, since he uses P&F a lot.

If you had to read three books, I would say that they should be:

The Nature of Risk, by Justin Mamis.
amazon.com

Analyzing Bar Charts for Profit: Technical Analysis As an Aid to Decision Making for the 1990s and Beyond, by John Magee.
amazon.com

Trader Vic - Methods of a Wall Street Master, by Victor Sperandeo.
amazon.com

Of course, there are two or three other books that are a must, but if I am limited to three, I would say, don't use indicators and read these ones.
