Registered DIMMs are almost as expensive as RAMBUS memory. Why would someone pay as much or more for registered SDRAM?!?

Registered DIMMs allow you to use 32/36 chip DIMMs. So with standard 128 Mbit chips, you can have 2 GB memory in the computer (4 DIMMs). With more expensive 256 Mbit chips, you can have 4 GB of memory.
