Part of the problem is that underlyingly, only the partisans really care about the outcome. As I posted this morning, Bush and Gore are tied on favorable ratings, and earlier, I have read polls showing that roughly the same percentages think either would make a good president. Now, that is more or less the partisans plus the independents in each case, and not the same (roughly) 60%, but it is a big overlap, and shows that small things could move it either way........
