hi gottfried,

when i was a customer of mbtrading, i had to install symantec's pcanywhere on my computer for just that very reason.... so that their techs could see my desktop and hard drive and make adjustments as needed.

as you can easily imagine, this is quite a big step for a customer to authorize, and mbtrading handles the protocol quite well. remote access can only be granted via permissions on a per case basis. i have read that the potential for hackers letting themselves in increases greatly on machines that have pcanywhere installed. it's not hard to imagine why.

i only used the remote tech support feature one time, as i recall. it sure was weird to be on the phone speaking with the tech guy, and watching my mouse pointer move about the desktop as he was saying, "now, do you see this column over here?" and the pointer would swing to the left, and then, "well, let's put it over here", and the column would reappear where he wanted it, etc. <g3>

i eventually stopped using mbtrading, and completely removed pcanywhere from my machine. i understand that it is a very popular piece of software, albeit one that brings with it a potential for great abuse.

:)
