Pericom Semiconductor Added to S&P SmallCap 600 Index


NEW YORK, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Standard & Poor's will replace Wesley Jessen VisionCare (Nasdaq: WJCO) in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index with Pericom Semiconductor (Nasdaq: PSEM) after the close of trading on Monday, October 2, 2000. Ciba Vision Corp., a unit of S&P Global 1200 component Novartis AG (NYSE: NVS), is acquiring Wesley Jessen VisionCare via a tender offer that is anticipated to expire on that date, unless extended.

Pericom Semiconductor designs, develops, and markets high-performance interface integrated circuits for the transfer, routing, and timing of high-speed digital and analog signals within and between computer, networking, and multimedia systems. The company, headquartered in San Jose, CA, will be added to the S&P SmallCap 600 Electronics (Semiconductors) industry group.
