NEW YORK -- IBasis Inc. (IBAS) plans to triple it Internet central offices in Europe under a plan to expand its market presence and services in the region.

In a press release Monday, the company said it named Tim Walsh vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He will be based at the company's new regional headquarters in London. Walsh was at Teleglobe Europe.

The company plans to open its new Internet central offices by the end of 2000 in Brussels, Copenhagen, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Stockholm and Zurich.

The Internet central offices are points-of-presence facilities that house systems equipment.

Shares of iBasis recently traded at $15.63, down 25 cents, or 1.6%, on Nasdaq volume of 25,500 shares. Average daily volume is 500,264 shares.
