I read an article about 10 days ago that qouted David Pottruck saying thing like: he was not interested in a merger of equals (re Goldman Sachs?), due to the huge debt load and no obvious benefits. I'm paraphrasing because I can't find the article now.....he also said something to the effect that Chuck Schwab is not interested in retiring or stepping down, so no deals are tempting them, and that their strategy to go it alone is paying off very well. They may purchase some other small companies to fill in their business plan (IMO), but there is no compelling reason for them to merge or acquire large debt. Wish I could find that article..... CMM
