Wireless DSL Consortium Membership Expanding
Five vendors have joined the Wireless DSL Consortium in the first two months
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 2, 2000-- The Wireless DSL Consortium today announced that five communications and semiconductor companies have joined the Consortium since the launch in July of this year. The new members are: Oren Semiconductor, REMEC, RF Solutions, SiCOM and TelesciCOM.

These Adopter members work with the Promoters in technical committees to develop the Consortium's open standard multi-vendor specifications for wireless access. In addition, the Adopters will be able to develop products - systems and components - from the newly defined specifications. The Consortium will develop specifications for products that will be available in 2000 as well as enhanced products to meet the market demand for Non-Line-Of -Sight (NLOS) solutions greatly reducing installation costs and enabling mass-market deployment of Broadband Wireless Access.

``We are very pleased to welcome Oren, REMEC, RF Solutions, SiCOM and TelesciCOM as new members of the Consortium,'' said John O'Connell, chairman of the Wireless DSL Consortium. ``The growing membership of the Wireless DSL Consortium proves that the momentum is building in the industry for access products based on an open standard and available from multiple sources. The Consortium is responding now to the industry demands.''

ABOUT THE WIRELESS DSL CONSORTIUM

Founded in July 2000, the goal of the Consortium is to provide the telecommunications industry with a market-driven multi-vendor solution for broadband wireless access on an accelerated schedule. The founding members of the Consortium are ADC, Conexant Systems, Gigabit Wireless, Intel, Nortel Networks and Vyyo.

The Wireless DSL Consortium focuses on bringing together an industry-wide initiative in a collaborative environment to rapidly build the world's leading Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) solution. The mission of the Wireless DSL Consortium is to provide a forum for the definition, development, implementation and testing of a set of open interfaces for Wireless DSL products. These interfaces will allow the Promoters and Adopters to rapidly launch a suite of attractive products and services that will enable multichannel multipoint distribution service (MMDS) providers to deliver broadband services to the mass market today and transition smoothly to products based on advanced techniques to provide service to the end customers not accessible with the initial solution. The current thrust of the Wireless DSL Consortium is focused on products for MMDS and the 3.5 GHz Wireless Local Loop (WLL) frequency ranges for the U.S. and international markets.
