He also escaped the 1929 crash relatively unscathed. The story has it that prior to the crash Kennedy's shoeshine boy was giving him stock tips during a shoeshine. Kennedy then sold everything reasoning that if shoeshine boys thought they could make money and had insight into the market that the market was too popular and too overextended. Jerry
