Dennis, jsut in case we think HFC is not viable and believe what we see from these bandits(Stansky's friends),here is an article from UMG(Continental) AT&T MAKES THE RIGHT CHOICE
MediaOne will soon be part of the foundation supporting AT&T's long-distance network in suburban Atlanta. AT&T has
selected MediaOne's massive hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) network, under construction, to connect its long distance network
to customers in the nine-county metro area.
"This arrangement clearly demonstrates the confidence AT&T has in the people, experience
and facilities of MediaOne. They have realized what many others will soon realize:
MediaOne is the best alternative to the incumbent telephone company," said Steve
Andrews, senior vice president for the Atlanta region of Media
Group's domestic broadband properties.
MediaOne's broadband HFC network stretches 65 miles north-to-south and 70 miles east-to-west, and was chosen only
after passing a stringent, extensive validation test. AT&T officials say the HFC plant was the largest they had ever tested in
this manner. AT&T also was impressed with MediaOne's ability to provide round-the-clock surveillance of the network from
its state-of-the-art Network Operations Center.
MediaOne's network was an alternative to the more costly access provided by BellSouth. Harry Bennett, AT&T vice
president and general manager, said the new arrangement will increase the value of AT&T service to customers. "These
agreements demonstrate that AT&T is taking the right steps to reduce what we've charged for access to our customers,"
Bennett said. I wonder if they are using any HLIT products, also chekc out the battle between RCN and MediaOne in Boston. Remember momentum alsways wins, and we are the ones stomped on. Tim |
