What was the price of gold in 1971? What was the price of gold in 1980? I think, "Why is a shiny metal object with very few practical uses worth $271 per ounce? Why not $100? Or $35?"

That looks like a chart of a real p.o.s.! Oh, and I had some XAU calls last year that turned out quite nicely with that little central bank announcement, so I'm not against the thing as a trading vehicle.
