Hewlett-Packard and Intel agreed to open labs where customers can test Internet-based products, and the two companies will write guides for setting up and using their equipment.
The companies opened a center at a Hewlett-Packard property in Cupertino, Calif. Working in development centers cuts the time and cost of validating e-business offerings, the companies said. Today's agreement covers Hewlett-Packard's NetServer machines.
Intel, the biggest computer-chip maker, is adding similar labs in many cities to help customers ensure their software works smoothly on Intel-based systems. As part of a $100 million effort begun this year, the company has opened 10 sites in areas such as Santa Clara, Calif.; Chantilly, Va.; and DuPont, Wash., and plans two or three more by year's end, Intel spokesman Tim Schulte said.
This is the first center Intel has opened with an outside partner, he said. The two companies will partner on more labs in coming months, Hewlett-Packard spokeswoman Jean Shimoguchi said.
The chipmaker and Hewlett-Packard, the No. 2 computer maker, said they'll also compile a list of instructions clients can use to get applications running sooner. The list will be created in Santa Clara, where Intel is based. |
