Here are the results of the January call on my life so far:
(1) I don't much listen to Brinker anymore, not because he and I disagree on the direction of the equity markets (which we do) going forward, but because of the manner in which his call has come down and been massaged, the details of which have been well documented and discussed on this and other threads. In short, his credibility has entered a secular bear market and even though he may eventually be right on his call, the foundation of my respect for his analysis, built over the course of many years, has been suffered severe and possibly irreparable structural damage;
(2) Thus, six hours per weekend have been freed up for the finer things in life and as a result my participation in the Brinker threads has been toned downed dramatically since by not listening much anymore I feel somewhat at a disadvantage in discussing Brinker, thus freeing up even more time, notwithstanding the few minutes being expended this morning to post these thoughts;
(3) I never liked that 4% rule and since breaking ranks with the B-Bots I feel better about my holdings which include a few obscenely overweighted positions including RMBS, CIEN, VRTX and QCOM, which were brought about by market valuations subsequent to purchase (i.e five to ten baggers), not initial investments and none of which would have been made last year had I bought the index and diversification theories espoused by the the aforementioned former source of knowledge, information and belief;
(4) Having thus distanced myself from the subject of this thread I must admit to hearing a few snippets from the show last weekend, one about measuring bear markets from the peak and although not specifically mentioned I assume you also measure bull markets from the lows and the low earlier this year in the NASDAQ was followed by a rally of about 40%, currently about 20% above that low but what I heard that I agree with the most is that neither of the two candidates are worth damn and I don't know myself what if anything I am going to do behind that curtain but Browne (Jackson and Harry) and Nadar all appeal to me, one because his politics and view of the role of government is most aligned with my own, one because of his great music and the third is gaining my respect more and more every time I see him not because of his espoused socialism and divisive economic views that make him out to be a complete lunatic but because of his guts and tenaciousness in challenging the system which is made stronger by his very presence.
My actual results are somewhat better then this.
