Sometime back I requested prayer for a young woman who was suffering from cancer. Unfortunately, she recently succumbed to her disease and is now with God. Shannon was truly an inspiration. She discovered she had cancer a few days after she learned the joyous news that she was pregnant. The cancer was discovered during an ultrasound procedure routinely done to view the newly developing child. Doctors told Shannon that, due to the particular type of cancer they thought she had, she would have to undergo an abortion in order to be treated and have any hope of recovering from the cancer. I think few would question that that would constitute a justifiable abortion if ever there was one. On the day she was scheduled to have the abortion, however, Shannon resolved to save her baby and absolutely insisted that her pathology be sent to another medical expert and forbade doctors to proceed with the planned abortion. Her faith bore fruit. The results of the new pathological examination proved that the doctors had misdiagnosed the type of cancer and informed her that they could, indeed, treat her during her pregnancy. About eight months later she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. Shannon was able to experience motherhood prior to her death. Her son is a living testament to her courage and her faith in God. May she rest in peace. Shannon died, a mother, at age 31.

In Christ, Tom
