Jochen- Here's what the typical rates are for broadband in the USA:
1. Local phone line $16/month
2. DSL service $45/month
3. ISP service $21/month

So this is about $82/month flat fee for unlimited, always on DSL service(unlimted local voice calls too). Cable modem is cheaper because the ISP charges are bundled in the $40/month cable modem charge. But of course you need to have cable TV service already installed. Just in case you are interested, cable TV service is roughly about $50/month for about 200 mainly useless programming.

So in Germany, it appears you are looking at:
1. Local phone line $12/month
2. DSL sircharge service $9/month
3. ISP service $25/month

Or a base rate of about $46/month. But apparently you have to pay for the time you are online. What would you estimate the charges are per minute of online use? Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)
