Methanol is poisonous and corrosive. Highly unlikely to be used as a fuel for autos.

XSquared: I was wondering about the salt content in the SPR oil as well. It's been in there a long time except for the Mexican oil that was recently swapped. Salt is quite corrosive. I wonder just how corrosive salty solutions become at the high temperatures required for refinery catalysis?
