>>Re the new operating system, does anyone think it will cause PC users to shift to AAPL? If so, why?<<

DD -

Even though you took back the question, I'd like to take a shot at it anyway. This is only one man's opinion.

When you have a PC, and you've bought a lot of software, games, etc., and accessories for it, it is tough to make the switch to another OS. On the other hand, if you have a PC and you have never really learned to make it work right, and the damned thing keeps crashing every five minutes, then a stable, simple, elegant operating system has a lot of appeal.

I believe that OS X will help Apple make its biggest market share gains since the original Mac was introduced. It will take a while for everyone to get used to it, but I believe it will be a big, big hit. I doubt that droves of PC users will switch, but more and more new buyers will choose the Mac because it will be so superior that there just won't be any doubt any more.

Some new users will still choose PCs because all their friends have them and they can bootleg the software they need.

I use PCs every day in my work, and have made my living with them for 15 years. I also work with Macs. Macs are better in many respects, and OS X, from what I've seen so far and from what I saw with NeXT systems several years ago, is going to make them FAR better.
