INTC--Intel's Barrett: Standards key to innovation

Continued Internet innovation is dependent on open interfaces and standard building blocks between hardware, software and networking systems, said Intel (INTC) president and CEO Craig Barrett today at Oracle's OpenWorld conference in San Francisco.
The advancement of the Internet so far has been fueled by such modular development, allowing customers to pick among a variety of competitors with which to build their systems, he said.
"None of us are independent of other people in this space," Barrett said in a session at Oracle Open World.
Continued competition, made possible through open interfaces and standard building blocks, will further fuel innovation in products for e-commerce, he said.
The potential for e-commerce, Barrett said, has clearly shifted focus from business-to-consumer to business-to-business transactions.
The promise of efficiency and opportunities for workers to collaborate from multiple locations are driving the e-commerce interest, he said.
But for companies to become total e-businesses, Barrett continued, they will have to be involved with their suppliers, partners and customers, both direct and indirect. |
