Earlier I said:

I doubt one can be immoral in a vacuum or in the absence of other beings, though I'd be willing to entertain an example to the contrary.

This is the impasse that I'm at. How do I show that morals are even possible except as an internal projection of self? Dunno! (hands in the air!) I have a real hard time with defining morals. That's where my utilitarian pragmatism comes in. It does seem useful to have some kind of morals code. My rather narrow set moral outrages has me projecting myself into the role of the victim, and thereby is an extension of the Golden Rule, applied to me by proxy of me. That's the best I can do. There appears some common themes in morals, but no "laws" that I can discern. The philosophical basis is that I wouldn't want it happening to me.
