EepOpp: Gore implied this evening that big government has influence with the big oil companies. I find that hard to swallow. They have nothing to bargain with.

The oil companies use "supply" as their bargaining chip. "You no wanna pay our price? We'll jack up the price and blame it on supply. That shuts 'em up every time." THEY HAVE SOMETHING WE WANT.

However, just as the oil companies have their "blackmail", the consumer forgets that they are what DRIVES the price of oil. If we all stopped driving our big SUV's and started car-pooling or working from home, the oil companies would come calling.

Ya, I dream up some wierd shit when I'm bored.

However, I would hazard a bet the the Vatican (which apparently has quite an economic empire) has more sway with BP than Greenspan and his sidekicks.
