Someone called in this weekend with the following question (paraphrased): "Bob, you used to say that you preferred to try to beat the market by selecting the best managed funds - index investing is very good, but it just isn't your style. Now you seem to be saying that it is nearly impossible to beat an index fund, so why try. What made you change?"

Bob's responsed that he has always included index funds in his investing. As I remember, the caller was right - Bob used to say that he preferred not to invest in index funds, but rather in managed funds with the potential to beat the market.

Does anyone else remember this?
